The Pigeon Creek Greenway Passage – Industrial Corridor Phase 5 Ribbon Cutting & Dedication Ceremony took place Monday, October 18, 2010 in the City of Evansville. United completed the construction inspection for this 10 foot wide, 0.81 mile long section of bike and pedestrian trail. The construction also included 3,000 feet of levee wall and over 300 feet of mechanically stabilized earth wall. United Hosts NHI Training

United recently hosted a National Highway Institute (NHI) training class from August 16 – 27. United employees, Chris Dyer, Joe Rupp and Chris Wheeler, along with 16 other professionals attended the Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges course that was held in the back conference room.

The NHI was established in 1970 by the U.S. Congress and is a part of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The purpose of the NHI is to offer transportation related training to State DOTs, LTAP and TTAP centers, universities, local municipalities and governments, planning groups, and consulting firms. The NHI trains by means of instructor-led, classroom-based, Web-based, Video and Web-conferencing training.

A Job Well Done

Admiration and respect were common shared sentiments during Kent Downey’s retirement celebration, December 17, 2009.  To start off the festivities, Steve Jones made a trip down memory lane with the numerous accomplishments and milestones Kent had made during his professional career at United over the past 35 years.

Kent’s wife, Kathy along with their daughter, Karry, her husband, Zack and their two children, Lily (Age 2) and Kayla (32 days old) came to help celebrate Kent’s outstanding career.  Kent’s son, Kevin, his wife, Lisa, and brand new baby boy, Shane (30 days old), also came in for a much appreciated surprise visit from Chicago.

Monon Bridge Dedication

The Monon Bridge Ribbon Cutting & Dedication Ceremony was held on July 1 in the plaza underneath the new bridge on Carmel Drive. Speakers for the event included Mayor Jim Brainard, Carmel City Councilmen Ron Carter and Eric Seidensticker, and UNITED’S Dave Richter. The $3.5 million bridge includes a steel bowstring truss and was built to ensure the safety of Monon users. The bridge also has LED lights that can be used to celebrate holidays with a variety of colors.

CNN visits United Consulting

In the early afternoon on February 5, looks of confusion were on employees faces, as a CNN film crew set up to shoot in the UNITED Bridge Team 2 area. Why would CNN be at UNITED? As it turns out, John King, the anchor of State of the Union on CNN, had interviewed Carmel Mayor, Jim Brainard, on how the stimulus plan could create much needed jobs for Hoosiers.
