United Consulting began in 1965 with professional engineers, planners, surveyors, environmental specialists, construction inspectors, land acquisition specialists, technicians, and other associates providing our clients with the resources they need to complete their projects from start to finish. United has successfully completed thousands of projects for a diverse cross-section of clients.
We began with four people in 1965 and have since grown to a staff of over 120. Our people are hired based on integrity, ability, and passion for delivering excellence. As a result, United is a recognized industry leader, known for forging ahead into unknown areas and being the first to create viable solutions to real issues. Our employees’ sincere passion combined with their unique contributions makes United Consulting a truly remarkable company.
Started business as United Construction and Engineering Corporation with 4 employees in Anderson, IN; Successfully bid on construction of a wastewater treatment plant at the Salamonie Reservoir.
Engineering and surveying services begin.
The Mass Transportation Authority of Marion County, Indiana selected United to design a five-mile corridor of Post Road, which was a significant portion of work for United from 1968 – 1978.
Corporate office moved to 5255 North Tacoma Avenue, Indianapolis
Knox County, Indiana chooses United to perform the first county-wide federal aid bridge inventory in Indiana.
Corporate name changes to United Consulting Engineers, Inc.
United became the City Engineer for the City of Beech Grove. For thirty years, United’s staff assisted the City of Beech Grove in programming and designing significant improvements to the streets, sidewalks, traffic signals and bridges within its jurisdiction.
United hires first-ever architect opening a new service in Architecture.
United was selected by the Indiana State Highway Commission (Now the Indiana Department of Transportation) to inspect and prepare bridge rehabilitation plans for five state highway bridges throughout Indiana. United’s performance on those five bridges led to a 21-year partnership with INDOT preparing bridge rehabilitation plans on over 350 bridges in Indiana.
Land Acquisition services are added.
United acquires the Indianapolis office of Superior Engineering which adds mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and other related services to United’s services.
United was selected by the Indiana Department of Highways to perform “Turnkey” services on U.S. 31 in southern Marion and northern Johnson counties. The “turnkey” project, a first for the IDOH, included surveying, design, right-of-way engineering, right-of-way appraising, and land acquisition services for this six-mile urban thoroughfare.
Corporate office moved to 1625 N. Post Road, Indianapolis.
The Indiana Horse Racing Commission selects United to perform review services for horse racing facility applications. The review includes plans for roadways, parking lots, lighting, water and wastewater service, grandstand, racing track surface, track lighting, stables, etc. United goes on to provide inspection services during construction for what comes to be known as Hoosier Park.
United designs the perimeter roadway system and provides construction engineering services for Toyota Motor Company’s new production plant in Princeton, IN.
United begins doing business as United Consulting Engineers & Architects.
United expands its services again and is selected by the Indiana Department of Transportation to perform traffic counts on state, federal, and interstate highways throughout the state.
United begins offering Water & Wastewater engineering services.
United received a contract to design Sullivan Wastewater Treatment Plant. The Sullivan Wastewater treatment was one of the early full-plant evaluation and design projects by United Consulting. This was a successful project for the community utilizing the decades of prior treatment plant design experience of United’s key staff for the project.
Selected for the design of the Indianapolis Cultural Trail. United Consulting completed all the civil design for the award-winning and world-class urban bike and pedestrian path in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana.
Working for Softco Erectors, United performs construction staking at the Lucas Oil Stadium site in Indianapolis.
Company is renamed and begins doing business as United Consulting.
United is recognized by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce as one of the Best Places to Work in Indiana.
Selected for I-69 Section 1 – Design Build (United Consulting won with our teammate Gohmann Construction (E&B Paving) the Design-Build of the first segment of the new I-69 connecting Evansville to Indianapolis.
United was selected to complete the Marion County Bridge Inventory. The Indianapolis Department of Public Works selected United to perform their Countywide Bridge Inspection and Inventory Program and have continued inspections for the last four cycles.
United was selected for the Eighth Street Bridge TIGER Grant Project. Madison County received a TIGER grant in order to replace the deteriorating Eighth Street Bridge over the White River.
