On Friday, February 15th at the beginning of evening rush hour, a lift being hauled by a semi-truck struck the Virginia Avenue Bridge over I-65 northbound and I-70 eastbound. INDOT responded on-site within minutes restricting and closing the interstates to assess the damage. United Consulting was contacted by INDOT to assist in the assessment and collaborate with INDOT on the design for repairs.
United’s Senior Engineers and Bridge Inspection Program Manager assessed the damage including arm length inspections to document the results of the truck’s impact. Concurrently, INDOT and United staff began evaluating potential repairs. United’s design was completed just after 3:00 am early Saturday morning for INDOT’s review, in order for repairs to begin that same morning.
The result of the collaboration was such that the design and repairs were completed in time for the interstates to be reopened before the Monday morning rush hour. For additional information click here: INDOT’s Press Release
