Whether you refer to him as the Bridge Guru, Yoda or just Jerry, one thing is for sure, Jerry Ritchie is a classic. Jerry began his career at United in 1969, when the first man landed on the moon and gas was 35 cents per gallon. A lot has changed in the past 43 years, but Jerry’s commitment to engineering and United Consulting remained constant.
A retirement party was held for Jerry on November 29 with his close family, friends, and co-workers in attendance to honor him. Jerry’s career was noted for not only his bridge expertise, but more importantly, his willingness to share his vast knowledge with young engineers.
Jerry’s contribution to engineering did not go unnoticed. In addition to the countless engineers he helped shape, he received the 2009 Engineer of the Year by the Indiana Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Jerry, we wish you well in the next chapter of your life and we will miss you.
