With shovels in hand and smiling faces, the city of Westfield elected officials and local dignitaries braved the cold to officially initiate the beginning of the Monon Trail over SR 32 Project during a Groundbreaking Ceremony on November 13th. The project is located along the west side of Wheeler Road at State Road 32 and promises to significantly improve safety for both trail users and motorists along SR 32 and along the Monon Trail.

The project limits fall within the main north/south trail route that provides connectivity between downtown Westfield, the Grand Junction, and Grand Park. The bridge was designed by United Consulting to consistently maintain the aesthetic value and match the appearance of the two neighboring Monon Trail bridges located over Carmel Drive and 146th Street.

Upon completion of this SR 32 project, the main span for the new structure will be 176 feet long. That’s over twice the length of the Monon over Carmel Drive Bridge and one and a half times longer than 146th Street crossing!
