An official ribbon cutting ceremony on October 23, 2015 commemorated the successful completion of I-65 between Southport Road and Main Street in Greenwood — Indiana’s FIRST Major Moves 2020 project. The ceremony was part of an event, dubbed by INDOT as a “double header”, and followed the kick-off for the Save-A-Life campaign sponsored by the Road Construction Awareness Corporation (RCAC).

The nearly $36 million I-65 project reconstructed six lanes of interstate which included the addition of auxiliary lanes between interchange ramps, upgraded overpasses, the installation of sound walls, and improved drainage between Southport Road and Main Street in Greenwood.  Milestone Contractors, L.P. was the state’s prime contractor for this Major Moves 2020 project and United Consulting served aRCAC Save-A-Lifes INDOT’s consultant representative.

During the first half of the “double header” event, RCAC, a grass-roots coalition of contractors and construction workers to promote worksite safety, unveiled a new sign that will be strategically placed near work zones to remind drivers to slow down and save lives.  Smaller, magnetic versions of the signs will be available for  INDOT, contractor, and supplier company vehicles to help get the word out. All expenses associated with the “Save-A-Life” campaign are funded by donations to RCAC.
