The much anticipated I-465 westbound to I-65 southbound ramp, located on the southside of Indianapolis, re-opened as a spiffy, new, 11-span, concrete beam flyover bridge replacing the outdated, single-lane loop ramp. The two-year project was completed as part of INDOT’s Operation Indy Commute which is a highway improvement initiative consisting of an overall plan to alleviate recurring bottlenecks within the Indianapolis Metropolitan Area.
The new flyover bridge, designed by United Consulting, in collaboration with the added travel lanes on I-465 and I-65 project, increases the efficiency of traffic flow between the two interstates while providing added interstate capacity and safety for commuters.
Anyone who has ever traveled I-465 westbound to I-65 southbound in the past will be amazed by the sleek, new structure’s ability to accommodate the demands and challenges of heavy commuter traffic.
