TOP THREE ANSWERS ON THE BOARD . . .
How do you commemorate 50 years of excellence with an unforgettable event that will be talked about for years to come? You play Family Feud, of course!
United’s 50 Years of Excellence celebration was hosted at the Columbia Club on Tuesday, June 2, as an employee-only event honoring those who make United’s success a reality on a daily basis. Vice President Steve Jones kicked-off the festivities, laying the ground rules and revealing the “Top Three Answers on the Board” for the event. Steve said, “We have established three objectives for the day. Number one is to look back over the past 50 years and share a little history that goes with them. Number two is to enjoy some good food and fellowship and number three is to have fun. So stay loose and get ready to have fun!”
Honorary attendees included four United retirees whose leadership was instrumental in the success of United over the past 50 years – Ralph Gemmer, Jake Hall, Kent Downey, and Jerry Ritchie. It was a special surprise to have Ralph Gemmer, United’s founder, and his wife, Pam attend the event.
The event began at 10:45 when employees loaded buses and departed from the office. Once at the Columbia Club and seated, Steve gave his opening remarks, shared a little company history, and acknowledged each retiree in attendance with the presentation of a 50-Year commemorative jacket. Next, was a mouthwatering buffet fit for a king while an entertaining collection of 50 years of photo memories played in a presentation on the big screen, located in the front of the room.
Then came the moment everyone had been waiting for – United’s own Chris Miller, clad in a wig and suit, ran into the room, high-fiving employees as he made his way to the front, announcing, “Put your hands together . . . It’s time to play the Family Feud!” Teams were assembled, departments competed against departments, and Road Team 1 persevered as the ultimate victor and took home the 2015 Family Feud Championship Trophy.
After the main event, employees met on the Downtown Circle for a group photo and were treated to cupcakes from The Flying Cupcake Truck. After enjoying cupcakes and a beautiful afternoon of sunshine, buses were summoned, and employees returned to the office at 3:00.
